It is with great pleasure I am announcing today the return of Rookie Designer. Both the blog and the podcast are BACK! After just short of a year break, I felt it was time to bring out the old paddles and give this site a shock. The last post was June of 2012 and the last podcast was from April 7, 2012.
Last year Kitty and I decided to put Rookie Designer on hold so that we could focus on our own businesses, as well as some other side projects. Kitty has continued to grow her graphic design business, Asterisco SA and has also had growing success with her cooking related blog, The Foodies’ Kitchen. I myself have grown my business, Prepressology and recently moved into a co-working office space to help me better focus on more regular hours. Needless to say for both Kitty and I things became very focused on business and Rookie Designer was left on the back burner. It wasn’t until about a month ago when Mark McGuinness messaged me on Facebook that it crossed my mind to start up Rookie Designer again. Mark started a great Facebook page called Graphic Design Stuff and had linked to a few of the posts from Rookie Designer. I noticed a small jump in traffic on the site and even saw a few new comments showing up. A few people said they had been going back and listened to some of the older shows by Adam (original founder of Rookie Designer) and some by Kitty and myself. This definitely got my attention and Mark definitely revived my desire to bring the show back. With Kitty’s focus on her business and The Foodies’ Kitchen, she let me know that she would not be returning as a co-host. So I started to contemplate going solo, just as Adam had at the start.
I thought about it for a while and was really concerned that it wouldn’t be as much fun for me to do the podcast by myself. Then it dawned on me that I had someone who might be interested. Carl, of Holy Carp Design had been working with me on a few projects the last couple of months. I asked if he was interested and he was. Now it was a matter of finding a time. Shortly after I asked Carl to be a co-host I moved into the new co-working office. This pushed things off for a bit. Finally we both an agreement that no matter what we would start Rookie Designer back up April 1st. So we set a date to record the first podcast with us as co-hosts and put things into motion again.
While I am sure many of you are curious about who Carl is and what he does related to design, you will just have to wait for episode 138 of Rookie Designer Podcast to be released. He did a great job for is first time podcasting and I look forward to the opportunity to do many, many more shows together. We already have a lot of ideas we want to cover and we are even working to bring in a few people for interviews. One interview I am particularly looking forward to doing is the one with Adam Hay, the original founder of Rookie Designer. It will be fun to catch up with him and see where his adventures have taken him since stepping away from Rookie Designer. So keep tabs on the blog and on our Rookie Designer Facebook page to hear when that interview will go down.
This is exciting to announce and NO it is not an April Fools Day joke. Rookie Designer is BACK! Carl and I look forward to sharing everything we can through blog posts and the podcast. So be sure to subscribe to Rookie Designer Podcast on iTunes so you can get the latest episode right after it’s release. Look for episode 138 either the end of this week or the beginning of next week.
