Rookie Designer was founded by Adam Hay in 2005, about one year into the growth of the new medium referred to as podcasting. Tired of the typical jargon laden, elitist discussions about the design field of work, Adam set out to create a resource for all designers, young and old, experienced and non. Born was the Rookie Designer podcast, bringing tips, techniques and discussion delivered in an easy-to-understand format.
In late March 2011, Adam passed on the podcast to Jake Van Ness and Kitty Florido, and new life is born into the podcast…
Carl Grivakis works in the dreaded private sector as a Senior Graphic Designer, and owns a freelance business named Holy Carp Graphic Design. Having earned a B.F.A. in graphic design in 2004 from the New England School of Art and Design at Suffolk University, Carl has climbed his way through the ranks from production artist to the role he holds today…and he’s still working on learning more to stay relevant in a field he loves and to share knowledge with others. Carl is passionate about design, doing right for others, and having a collaborative design process with clients and peers. When not pushing pixels, Carl hides behind a game screen running a D&D game, or rolling dice at a local Warhammer 40k tournament.
Jake Van Ness is the owner of the independent design business, Graphic Precision. A self taught print designer with over 15 years of experience from working in a variety of print shops producing stationery to commercial marketing collateral to label and package products. Passionate about photography, the latest technologies and the ever growing internet. If he is not designing, blogging or podcasting you will find him enjoying the Adirondacks of Upstate New York by fishing, camping or hiking.
